Dr. Bob Lorinser - Candidate for U.S. Congressional District MI-01 I'm Dr. Bob Lorinser, a family doctor, diplomat, social worker, educator, public health leader, and Medicare/Medicaid Medical Director. My wife Peggy and I have called Northern Michigan and the UP home for 36 years. I strive to lead with honesty, empathy, and a commitment to unity and serve all citizens with respect and gratitude. Candidates must be courageous to effectively problem-solve and I remain committed to boldly finding solutions to issues that matter most. My priorities include fighting for hardworking families and small businesses through labor reform and livable wages. Expanding public education, housing, and childcare are also crucial to economic prosperity. I am dedicated to promoting energy independence, while protecting the environment and addressing climate change. I will advocate for diplomacy to resolve international problems. I strongly support protecting Social Security, expanding Medicare for all, and restoring Roe nationwide. A patient's room is far too small for a woman, her doctor, and the entire US government. Healthcare is a fundamental human right. With the US spending 30% of our national budget on […]

Learn About the Candidates: Callie Barr

Take Action and learn about the candidates in the upcoming Michigan August Primary - August 6, 2024. Callie Barr - Candidate for U.S. Congressional District MI-01 I am a 5th-generation Michigander and I’m running for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District. I am a proud graduate of Cheboygan High School where I met my husband, Mat. After September 11, Mat enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Iraq. I attended Central Michigan University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in secondary education. I moved with my husband five times in 15 years, raising two girls and eventually caregiving for Mat after he suffered combat injuries, including post-traumatic stress and a traumatic brain injury. Frustrated by the lack of support for active military members and returning veterans, I became involved in advocating for the military and their families with Blue Star Families and the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers. I then went on to receive a law degree, graduating with honors from the University of Michigan Law School so I could better advocate for policy changes at the federal level. I am running for office because MI-01 deserves a representative that is from Michigan and for Michigan. To […]

She was recruited by the CIA to be a Middle East analyst, and within a year she was sent on the first of three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military. Her time in a combat zone led her to national security roles at the White House, where she worked as a civil servant, for whoever was the Commander-in-Chief. Elissa worked for President Bush as a member of his national security staff and was asked to stay on when President Obama took office. In the Obama Administration, she helped negotiate some of the Pentagon’s most sensitive national security matters from the fight against ISIS to the U.S. response to Russian aggression.
