Justice Kyra Harris Bolden is serving in her second year on the Michigan Supreme Court. Justice Bolden’s historic appointment made her the first Black woman to serve as a Justice in Michigan, and she has recently launched her campaign to retain her seat. In her first year, she had the distinct honor of authoring three majority opinions, one unanimous. After receiving her JD, Justice Bolden became a criminal defense attorney and later, a civil litigation attorney. She then served in the MI House of Representatives for two terms wherein she sat on the Judiciary Committee. She crafted and passed five bipartisan bills, that became law, which focused on criminal justice reform and protecting survivors of sexual violence. Justice Bolden is an active member of her community, serving as a member of the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, Wolverine Bar Association, Straker Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Justice Bolden has received several awards including the Detroit NAACP’s Ida B. Callie Barr - Candidate for U.S. Congressional District MI-01 I am a 5th-generation Michigander and I’m running for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District. I am a proud graduate of Cheboygan High School where I met my husband, Mat. After September 11, Mat enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Iraq. I attended Central Michigan University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in secondary education. I moved with my husband five times in 15 years, raising two girls and eventually caregiving for Mat after he suffered combat injuries, including post-traumatic stress and a traumatic brain injury. Frustrated by the lack of support for active military members and returning veterans, I became involved in advocating for the military and their families with Blue Star Families and the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers. I then went on to receive a law degree, graduating with honors from the University of Michigan Law School so I could better advocate for policy changes at the federal level. Elissa Slotkin - Candidate for U.S. Senate Elissa has dedicated her career to serving the country she loves. Elissa was in New York City on September 11, 2001, and by the time the dust cleared, Elissa knew she wanted to go into national security to protect our homeland. She was recruited by the CIA to be a Middle East analyst, and within a year she was sent on the first of three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military. Her time in a combat zone led her to national security roles at the White House, where she worked as a civil servant, for whoever was the Commander-in-Chief. Elissa worked for President Bush as a member of his national security staff and was asked to stay on when President Obama took office. In the Obama Administration, she helped negotiate some of the Pentagon’s most sensitive national security matters from the fight against ISIS to the U.S. response to Russian aggression. Elissa, running on the issues that mattered the most to Michiganders; bringing down the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, bringing critical supply chains back to the U.S., creating jobs with dignity, and getting money out of politics, was first elected in […]

Kimberly Ann Thomas is a clinical professor and director of the Juvenile Justice Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School, where she educates the next generation of lawyers and serves low-income Michiganders.  Thomas worked to improve our court system through her service on the Michigan Task Force on Juvenile Justice Reform. Thomas has been recognized with the U.S. Fulbright award and has been a legal education expert for the Rule of Law Initiative of the American Bar Association.  She’s a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Maryland at College Park.  After law school, she clerked for the Hon. R. Guy Cole of the US Court of Appeals Sixth Circuit and began her career as a public defense attorney. Thomas is a mom of two Ann Arbor Public School students; a middle schooler and a high schooler, and is engaged in her community as a volunteer school Science Olympiad coach.
